Unbelievable events leading up to today since my last post ladies and gentlemen. I now type to you and blog as a 21 year old man living in Algonquin Park Canada. For those of you who dont know I am a Hockey Director/Senior Counselor at Camp Tamakwa. I've been at camp since late June and return home on August 24th just in time for the last few special days of Welcome Week at Michigan State, my second home. When I last updated my blog roughly a week ago I spoke about the anticipation of my 21st Birthday and a few other impotrant upcoming events. Well they all happened and all were beyond exciting and successful in every sense of the word. When I returned back to the shores of South Tea, where camp is located I was informed that the senior girls dedicated their whole entire Fake Mini Colour War Break to me. Their theme was where will Michael Fenkell be in 30 years. The 4 occupations they envisioned me as were a Gym Teacher, Motivational Speaker, Superhero, and a ESPN commentator, I believe. I have yet to see their break because I was on Day off when it was perfromed in front of the whole camp but it was an honor that they would dedicate their whole break to me so thank you to all of you. The senior girls names I know include Erin Sachse, Aly Seel, Elana Folbe, Mallory Tyner, Aly Huff, Taylor Bronstine, Katie Dresner, Katie Robinson, Izzy Goldberg-Jessip, and Anna Eisenberg. Thank you to all of the beatuiful senior girls who I heard did a great job mocking and making fun of Fankle. That was the night I returned to camp, Thursday night. Friday was the last day for first month campers. It was an extremely sad day for me and my cabin because 8 out of my 14 campers headed home. The campers that returned home included Connor Schram (the only camper who achieved his High Award in Hockey), Jake Seel, Dylan Deitch, Jonah Adelman, Kravitsky, Jake Migdal (Howie Midgals cousin), and Ethan Beallor. I miss all of you guys tremendously. That night was beyond sad as I mentioned because over 50 percent of my stock was leaving throughout Saturday. Saturday was Visiting Day, in which campers parents and all others who want to visit come into camp and spend the day there with their children or friends. I was very fortunate that my fajjj made it to Tamakwa via plane to see me. He owed it to me considering he never came to see me in Barcelona when I was there for almost half a year. We had an outstanding time together as he met all my campers and their parents as well as a lot of his old friends at Tamakwa. He was a camper at Tamakwa in the late 60's and early 70's. His counselor at camp in 1972 was Chevy Chase, just some random information for you there. After all the parents left all staff went to Bonita, Michael Budman (the owner of Roots) cottage located within a boat ride distance away from camp. We spent the night there, had great food including the head chef from Webers cooking their famous burgers for us. It was a great night finished off perfectly by me as I came through in the clutch with a Greek Goddess. Sunday was a wierd day for me because it was the beginning of second month. This ultimately meant new co-counselors and new campers for Fankle. I was lucky to stay in the exact cabin I was in, Dickson Bonfield as well as getting Josh Freed and Matt Begley as new Co-Counselors. I sadly lost James Robinson to another cabin and was happy to remain co's with Josh Ketai. I gained 5 new campers including two first year campers from Israel. It was a fun fulfilled day in which I got to become accustomed to new kids and a new cabin aura. Monday the 28th, was a great day and a hectic day as well. I spent most of the day preparing for my bitrhday and was fortunate to start teaching hockey again and begin getting to know my kids better. The unfortunate note is that a Lice epidemic began in camp as basically 1 out of every 4 kids found out they had lice. A bunch of campers were told that they needed to shave their heads due to lice and were afraid of being embarrassed. So Smitty and I decided to be pioneers and shave our heads on my birthday so that the kids that needed to get their heads shaved wouldnt feel left out. So I currently sit at my friend Alexis Goldenbergs cottage in Gilford, Ontario with a buzzed haircut. I look great according to my inside sources but a lot like Jeffrey Fenkell. Back to late monday night now. As my birthday approached at midnight I organized a flip cup game at midnight to celebrate the birth of my 21st. We drank bug juice obviously because alcohol is prohibited in camp. The teams were Smitty, Jonah Radums Silverstein, Chad Gans, Michael Mudd, and myself vs. Michael Ran, Josh Forman, Chris Keating, Dan Berman, and Harry Snider. Our team lost both games as I was the anchor but lost both times before I was able to even drink out of my cup. Smitty, Matt Orienstein, and JRS gave me a great Bday card with a pack of Spitz Sunflower seeds and a Mens Health Magazine. I went to bed shortly there after in preparation for my great day. I woke up just before breakfast and made it down to eat. My campers made signs for me and the senior girls dedicated a cheer to me. It was a great feeling. It was a regular day though for me as I worked at hockey all day. I got my head buzzed later that day after dinner. That whole day was spent preapring for 16-under boys intercamp against Maintou at Maintou. I was coaching boys Basketball, Baseball and Hockey on Wednesday, the day after my 21st. The end of my day was not filled with hardcore drinking sadly and I got to sleep early to be prepared for a 7am wakeup, 2 hour drive to Maintou, and a day comprised of legit hard intense competition.
The day started off with boys baseball in which their umpire ligitimately cheated. He intentioanlly blew 5 calls, all important to the game. We lost that game 2-0. Basketball was sad as well as we lost that game. Going into the final sport played, Hockey, both camps won 4 sports. So the winner of Hockey decided the winner of Intercamp. We went down 1-0 early until our Captain Chad Schram went end to end and tied up the game with a beautiful snipe five hole. They went up shortly thereafter 2-1. Jake Fine, the games MVP, scored on a great backhand rebound to tie up the game. Connor Sakwa had a great steal and snipe to put us up 3-2 a few monutes later. It began to drizzle a little during the game which added a great effect to the game. With about 10 minutes left in the game Jake Fine once again put in another great goal to put us up 4-2. The game was called with about 6 mniutes left due to intense rain. We won the game 4-2 winning intercamp and of course in my eyes the most important sport, Hockey. What a great day that was and a great late birthday present from my boys. Our team included Chad Schram, Jake Silbert, Jake Fine, Zack Weinerman, Connor Sakwa, Evan Ketai, Mitchell Schecter, Justin Moss, Ben Aronovitz, and Brad Sucker. What a great team comprised of great attitudes and talent. Thank you to all of my players fro giving 110% that whole game. How How. Nuff Nuff. I returned back to camp in great spirits obviously and quickly changed before dinner. I left right after dinner yesterday on my day off and had a great night with some great people including Athena, the Greek Goddess. After a great sleep in and a good breakfast I sit on a computer finally to type a post. It feels great. Thank you to all those who shared their birthday wishes with me by phone or on facebook. I look foward to returning home August 24th. Dudley I love and miss you.

FANK the TANK on South Tea
The only way I can blog these days is on my Blackberry during my day off, so I'll do my best to continue updating although it does get frustrating typing on such a small keyboard. I'm in Smittys car right now headed from Toronto back to Algonquin Park. Just saw Dark Knight. Absolutely incredible performance by Heath Ledger. The movie sadly was not as good as Batman Begins but still a great movie. The drive to Algonquin will take about 3 hours, which ultimately means this entry will contain some serious depth and substance. A lot of e p I c stories and a ton of great moments have been had and must be shared. So here we go.....
My 16 and under Baseball team pulled off one of the more memorable comebacks of my coaching career. It even ranks amongst the best I've ever seen during Intercamp competition. Our All Star batting lineup was the following: At 1 was Evan Ketai who went 2 for 3 and had huge singles. Hitting second was Max Unger who had a solid day at the plate. Lee Feldman hit 3rd and hit in 4. Huuuge day. Chad Schram had a few big hits at cleanup. He even played through injury. Great day for Chad. 5 was Mitchell Schecter who had a huge hit during our comeback 5 run 4th inning. Darren Weiss hit 6. He had the timely leadoff hit to start off the 4th inning. Danny Freed hit 7 and pitched extremely well. Jake Fine hit 8th and also had timely hits. Our 9th was a strategy hitter. Matt Rosenfeld, who was one of our better hitters. He played great as well. Our squad was down early 4 to 0. Lee Feldman stepped up in the 3rd. Our team had the bases loaded and was in desperate need of a hit. Lee hit a line drive triple that knicked in 3. Manitou ended up scoring 2 more putting us behind 3 runs 6-3. Our last official at bat was a 5 run ralley. We closed them out with a guy on 2nd and 3rd two outs. Couldda gotten ugly had we blown the lead but a nice pop out fly secured our win and legendary comeback. My hockey squad however did not fare so well as we faltered and lost 5-2. But what a day. Ohh yea our basketball team won in OT 31-30, which was unreal to witness.
Intercamp was on Wednesday. Jumping a few days now gets us to Friday. My cabin, Ranger 6, had the honor to hold Friday Night Services on the slope. What this entails is to speak in front of the whole camp about a topic you choose. We chose to talk about what things make us happy in life. My 12 year old boys wrote great speeches. I had a pretty good one myself. My speech included a top 10 rundown of my most favorite things in life that make me happy. I'll tell you them real quickly. At 10 is Sour Candy. 9 is a nice weight lifting session followed by a schfitz and steam at Knollwood. 8 is looking in the mirror. 7 is . 6 is Taco Bell. 5 is one handed pushups. 4 is watching ESPN Top 10 plays, turning off the volume, and practicing commentating. 3 is when hard work in school or life in general pays off. 2 is the anticipation of taking a girl out on a date for the first time. Number 1 was a tie between my Grandpa Morrie and Dudley. My Hobbie Hub Part 3 was soon after the Service. Quite a few people showed up for my Hub which was located on the Bottom of the Slope. Great Friday night.
Fast fowarding now to later that night brings us into the Boys Biffy where I was showering after Taps, which is when all campers go to their cabins for the night. Halfway during my shower I hear a familiar voice screaming my name. Within a few short seconds I opened the shower curtain only to see Mr. Dustin Wachles. What a suprise to see Sky who was accompanied by Seth Rogers and Matthew Budman. Also on the shores that night was Josh Diamond. They were all staying at Bonita, the Budmans cottage right next to camp. They visited that night to say hi to everyone. Their real reason at camp though was to play against our Staff Hockey Team. We all chilled in Vic's cabin, the owner of Camp Tamakwa. We reminisced and spoke about our current lives. Great hour or so talk we had that night. Matt Ran and I drove them back to Budmans cottage shortly there after on the pointer. I passed out immediately after in anticipation and preparation for Saturdays Showdown on the Platforum. Pushing to lunch on Saturday takes us to the Ballfield where an outdoor lunch was taking place. Hot Dogs and Burgers were being served alongside the Baseball field where the whole camp ate and watched my 16 and under Boys Baseball team play Head Staff. Sam Brickman, my other coach, and I played for the 16 and under team. We ended up winning 2-1 on a poor base running effort by Matt Ran for Head Staffs team. I went 1 for 2 with a ground rule double. It was a great win and a testiment to the talent and depth of our roster. Immediately after the baseball game was our Highly talked about Hockey game against my boys. The teams were Rogers, SkyWachler, Budman, JD, and Josh Forman against Vic, Craig, Len, Matt Ran, and myself. It was obvious before the game that they had more depth than us but I felt that if I played a flawless game we could legitimately pull off the upset. So here our team is down 9-4 to them somewhat early on. Within about 10 minutes I legitimatelly accounted for the next 6 goals putting us up 10-9. There were a few spectators there. Almost forgot to mention Michael Wolf, who came up with my boys. He was there the night before as well and was at the rink but not playing in the game. After we went up one a water break was called. The second half went well until the end as we lost 14-12. Their overall youth outlasted ours as they took control at the end. I gave everything I had as I didn't come off the rink basically the whole game. All in all it was an outstanding game that took me back to my younger years as I played alongside all my boys on South Tea once more.
Sunday was an epic day. Orienstein, the Landsports and basketball director and myself held the official opening of Club Platforum. Basically what that means is that we pretended that the Platforum was a night club. We had a list that my CIT and Bodyguard that day Lee Feldman had. The kids had to dress up in a collared shirt. My staff Ben Klein and Isaac Lax were the servers. The walked around with cups of water on goalie blockers serving them to the kids, talking like it was a real club. We all dressed up nicely as club owners. It lasted the first 3 periods of the day. Very fun idea it turned out to be.
Monday was very solid as it was cookout day. We get to sleep in and get brunch before our cabins head to destinations located around our camp to go on cookout. That was very relaxing as our cabin didn't have to canoe and got driven on Marge the Barge to Adventure South. We got back into camp at 8ish and all met up as a camp at the Beachers next to the swim docks. This was the site of Chief o Chief, a long lasting tradition where the owner of camp, Vic in this case, holds story time where we share stories about our day. We talk about interesting wildlife we see in the park that day followed by competitions amongst audience members. I actually participated by challenging the strongest kid in our camp, Michael Mudd a Rugby player from the UK listed at 6 foot 205 pounds. We arm wrestled on both our right and left arms as I am a lefty and he is a righty. I gave great efforts on both arms but unfortunately lost both. I will get my rematch again against him but its gonna take strategic preparation.
Yesterday, Tuesday July 22nd, a week from my 21st Bday, was a great day. I had a nice gourmet breakfast followed by a nice lunch. After lunch was a meeting for the JT, or junior tamakwans, Triathalon. My job for that event was as the MC at the bottom of the slope and commentate on the campers involved and intrigue the rest of the campers who weren't involved. I did a great job I feel asking questions and playing sports trivia with the crowd. After dinner I left camp to go on my final day off for first month. I drove with Smitty alongside Matty Orienstein and Judd Fischer. We went to Toronto to get dinner with Matts mom and then see Dark Knight today before heading back up to camp which I currently am doing as I type this entry. Unreal dinner we had at The Avenue located at the Hazelton Hotel. I had dinner with Matts father, Johnny, a great guy who was kind enough to pay for my dinner. Smitty, Matt obviously, and Andrew Metrick a past Tamawkan and solid character, also joined in. Matts majjj was there as well. I can't describe how sick the bar was and how much fun I truly had. I spent that night at Matts grandparents. This morning I had scrambled eggs, bagels creamcheese and locks and Tropicana Orange Juice. Delicious. After breakfast I showered and went to visit Metrick at his pad. After that I went to see Dark Knight with Smitty and Orienstein which leads all of you to now 7 pm on Wednesday July 23rd, 2008.
Visiting day is this upcoming Saturday. My fajjj is coming to visit. I look foward to seeing him. I hope you all enjoyed the entry. Much love. NUFF NUFF.

TAMAKWA
So here I am laying in my hotel room on my beyond legit king size bed at the Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, Ontario. Many incredible things have happened and are currently happening at camp Tamakwa the place where I chillz factor in Algonquin Park. For those of you who don't know, this is my 9th summer at Tamakwa and second as a Staff member. My adventure in Algonquin began on a great note when I was granted my lifelong dream as the Hockey Director. I was also extremely fortunate to get the best cabin in camp with the best possible campers. I do apologize to all my fans out there for the delay with updating my blog but the one computer in camp is always being occupied by others and when I do get a chance to type, its only for 5 minutes or so. Since my return to the shores on South Tea Lake, I have been involved with many great people and many new great opportunities. Because I run the hockey program I am in charge of a few great people. My staff includes the Moss brothers Josh and Justin, both of whom are great kids, as well as two boss' from the UK Tom and Chris. The boys section head, Jeff Avegian, is one of the greatest guys at camp and is a huge part of my success and happiness at camp this year. He is also my goaltender for the staff hockey games every day at rest hour. The staff hockey teams include great all around talent. On my teamn, are both owners of camp Vic Norris and Craig Perlmutter as well as Len Giblin/Weiss the head of our tripping program, Matt Ran, Mr. Avegian and myself against Tom and Chris (the Brits), Gary aka the Unca Lou special, Chad Schram, Tyler Fish, and Josh Moss in net. Our games are usually very intense and competitive but I have to admit that our squad has gotten the upper hand as we are currently 5-0 vs them. Pure and Epic moments complimented by great talent is constantly displayed at both ends of the rink but my teams age, experience, and wisdom has proven to be the outlying difference in the series. Staff hockey is my pride and joy every day and undoubtedly is for all those involved. Moving on here though...Fankle is the head coach of both the boys 12 and 16 and under hockey and baseball teams. These teams compete against other camps at a very high level which obviously excites the hell out of me as I am known to be a decent competitor. When I was a camper 20 years ago, the one and most important day to me was intercamp. So far our 12 and under teams played Camp Manitou at their place and had a pretty decent showing. Our baseball team tied 1 to 1 and my hockey team lost 8 to 7 in a game for the ages. I must admit though that I am extremely proud of my boys who gave a great effort during every play and every shift. This upcoming Wednesday is our 16 and under intercamp against Camp Manitou at our place which should serve to be an epic day of pure solid intense vigorous competition.
I spend most of my days training and working out on the rink and the basketball court known as the Platforum with my wonderful counterparts, most notably the Landsports Director Matt Orenstein who is a very young good looking single disease free gentlemen with a great set of chizzled arms. No I'm not physically attracted to him but he is a great guy and I owe him the respect as he did outlast me in the Beep test, a test of endurance and stamina. Other great events that have happened thus far include me being chosen as Chief South for Tamagama, continuing my Hobbie Hubs on Friday Nights at the bottom of the slope as I tell my life story to roughly 100 kids who enjoy and appreciate my zest and positivity towards life, and the most important of all....the game I invented one night during staff rec, which is the part of the night where all campers are sleeping and the staff get to hang out and chillz factor. It all started as I began kicking an empty water bottle into an empty crate about 15 feet away. I had no initial intention to stirr up the kind of following and crowd that eventually ensued but I have been known to do big things in small places so here I was with one or two people laughing at me as I relentlessly tried kicking the bottle into a crate, failing repeatedly. Within about 10 mintues a few people began watching me and even participating, trying to kick and land the bottle into the crate. After another 10 minutes of coming close another 20 people joined the action and began watching and cheering. I must point out that Avegian did come up with the idea to angle the crate at a 91.5 degree angle to add more suspense and toughness to the game. I'll jump another 20 minutes now where one who attended that night would witness every staff member either standing in line to kick the bottle or surrounding the crate waiting and anticipating someone, most notably myself, to accomplish the feat and land the bottle into the crate. My boy Max Charles Levine-Poch aka Boathouse kicked it in the crate but it bounced right out which obviously stirred up the audience. I came extremely close a few times but never made it. Then finally, after about an hour my boy Harry Snider stepped up to the tape marked on the floor with the letter X, where the bottle softly rested upon. A soft and slow clap began as he approached the bottle and with one swift boot he landed the bottle perfectly in the crate. A huge roar and tussle ensued as everyone erupted in joy and laughter. Never in the history of Staff Rec do I believe any single game or event has involved and entertained all staff like it did that night. That is all the time I have for now but I will coninue to keep all of you updated on my life at camp. Nuff nuff? Vajjj
