So here I am laying in my hotel room on my beyond legit king size bed at the Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, Ontario. Many incredible things have happened and are currently happening at camp Tamakwa the place where I chillz factor in Algonquin Park. For those of you who don't know, this is my 9th summer at Tamakwa and second as a Staff member. My adventure in Algonquin began on a great note when I was granted my lifelong dream as the Hockey Director. I was also extremely fortunate to get the best cabin in camp with the best possible campers. I do apologize to all my fans out there for the delay with updating my blog but the one computer in camp is always being occupied by others and when I do get a chance to type, its only for 5 minutes or so. Since my return to the shores on South Tea Lake, I have been involved with many great people and many new great opportunities. Because I run the hockey program I am in charge of a few great people. My staff includes the Moss brothers Josh and Justin, both of whom are great kids, as well as two boss' from the UK Tom and Chris. The boys section head, Jeff Avegian, is one of the greatest guys at camp and is a huge part of my success and happiness at camp this year. He is also my goaltender for the staff hockey games every day at rest hour. The staff hockey teams include great all around talent. On my teamn, are both owners of camp Vic Norris and Craig Perlmutter as well as Len Giblin/Weiss the head of our tripping program, Matt Ran, Mr. Avegian and myself against Tom and Chris (the Brits), Gary aka the Unca Lou special, Chad Schram, Tyler Fish, and Josh Moss in net. Our games are usually very intense and competitive but I have to admit that our squad has gotten the upper hand as we are currently 5-0 vs them. Pure and Epic moments complimented by great talent is constantly displayed at both ends of the rink but my teams age, experience, and wisdom has proven to be the outlying difference in the series. Staff hockey is my pride and joy every day and undoubtedly is for all those involved. Moving on here though...Fankle is the head coach of both the boys 12 and 16 and under hockey and baseball teams. These teams compete against other camps at a very high level which obviously excites the hell out of me as I am known to be a decent competitor. When I was a camper 20 years ago, the one and most important day to me was intercamp. So far our 12 and under teams played Camp Manitou at their place and had a pretty decent showing. Our baseball team tied 1 to 1 and my hockey team lost 8 to 7 in a game for the ages. I must admit though that I am extremely proud of my boys who gave a great effort during every play and every shift. This upcoming Wednesday is our 16 and under intercamp against Camp Manitou at our place which should serve to be an epic day of pure solid intense vigorous competition.
I spend most of my days training and working out on the rink and the basketball court known as the Platforum with my wonderful counterparts, most notably the Landsports Director Matt Orenstein who is a very young good looking single disease free gentlemen with a great set of chizzled arms. No I'm not physically attracted to him but he is a great guy and I owe him the respect as he did outlast me in the Beep test, a test of endurance and stamina. Other great events that have happened thus far include me being chosen as Chief South for Tamagama, continuing my Hobbie Hubs on Friday Nights at the bottom of the slope as I tell my life story to roughly 100 kids who enjoy and appreciate my zest and positivity towards life, and the most important of all....the game I invented one night during staff rec, which is the part of the night where all campers are sleeping and the staff get to hang out and chillz factor. It all started as I began kicking an empty water bottle into an empty crate about 15 feet away. I had no initial intention to stirr up the kind of following and crowd that eventually ensued but I have been known to do big things in small places so here I was with one or two people laughing at me as I relentlessly tried kicking the bottle into a crate, failing repeatedly. Within about 10 mintues a few people began watching me and even participating, trying to kick and land the bottle into the crate. After another 10 minutes of coming close another 20 people joined the action and began watching and cheering. I must point out that Avegian did come up with the idea to angle the crate at a 91.5 degree angle to add more suspense and toughness to the game. I'll jump another 20 minutes now where one who attended that night would witness every staff member either standing in line to kick the bottle or surrounding the crate waiting and anticipating someone, most notably myself, to accomplish the feat and land the bottle into the crate. My boy Max Charles Levine-Poch aka Boathouse kicked it in the crate but it bounced right out which obviously stirred up the audience. I came extremely close a few times but never made it. Then finally, after about an hour my boy Harry Snider stepped up to the tape marked on the floor with the letter X, where the bottle softly rested upon. A soft and slow clap began as he approached the bottle and with one swift boot he landed the bottle perfectly in the crate. A huge roar and tussle ensued as everyone erupted in joy and laughter. Never in the history of Staff Rec do I believe any single game or event has involved and entertained all staff like it did that night. That is all the time I have for now but I will coninue to keep all of you updated on my life at camp. Nuff nuff? Vajjj
